Covid-19 message

The Newport 300 committee came together to celebrate Newport’s 300th year. We wanted to make 2020 a truly memorable year filled with fun, festivals and family days out, to shine a light on our small but vibrant community in this beautiful corner of Clew Bay. Because of Covid-19, 2020 will be a year that will never be forgotten - but not in the way we had hoped. The fun and festivals have been put on the shelf, to be dusted off another day. But the coronavirus did something that we had hoped to do - it has brought our community together and you can see the pride shining through.

  • It shines through our shopkeepers who are doing everything they possibly can to remain open to serve our community.

  • It shines through our neighbours who check on the elderly and make sure they are okay and have everything they need.

  • It shines through Facebook and social media where people try and keep our hopes and spirits up, while others find ways to keep our youth busy through learning and sport.

  • It shines through our front-line workers who get up each morning and go out and fight this disease.

In all these ways we are making these dark days a little less so, and we will come out of this even stronger as a community. When this passes - and it will - the time for fun and festivals will come around again. Newport 300 will resume and we will come together in happier times.

THIS THURSDAY 2nd APRIL AT 3PM, TO MARK THE DAY THE LAND WAS SIGNED OVER TO CAPTAIN PRATT, THE BELL
