Canon Killeen Park
A new stone sculpture will be unveiled in Canon Killeen Park to commemorate this tri-centennial year. A new flagpole with a specially commissioned flag will be erected alongside the stone and flown at all events during the year of celebration.

Fun family event in the lovely Princess Grace Park. Kids can run through the park and find chocolate eggs and there will be one golden Newport 300 egg for one lucky person. The over 10s will be more of a scavenger hunt, with lots of prizes and Easter eggs. 2pm Kids <10 | 3pm Kids >10

Join us on the streets of Newport for an unforgettable Historical Reenactment of the development of our town, as told through two main characters - Captain Pratt and the visionary Brian Rua O Cearbhainn.

100 years ago a regatta was held at Melcombe and this year we are holding a regatta in Newport Harbour and Callicaun There will be racing for senior and junior sailors in 4 categories with some fun racing to bring the bay alive!

A chance to sample local food at its best…
This will be a packed weekend of celebrating food of the area, there will be cookery demos, food tastings, bakery competition, zero food mile dining event, lectures on food/cookery. We hope to have something for every taste and every age.

We plan to gather all types of boats into the harbour to commemorate 300 years of boating in this lovely harbour We are proud of the variety of craft now using the bay and we invite all boating enthusists to join the flotilla !

In the same year as Newport was founded, Edmund Halley (of Halley’s comet fame) was elected Astronomer Royal. Newport Astronomy Club will present a talk on the life of this influential and inspiring scientist,

Grace Kelly Film Festival
Grace Kelly is surely one of the most iconic Hollywood stars of the 1950’s. Her beauty and elegance were breathtaking. The fact that her grandfather was a bricklayer from Newport in Mayo just adds to the legend. In September 2020, Newport will host the third Grace Kelly Film Festival to honour the Hollywood star and real-life Princess.

This will be a competition to see who can carve the best pumpkin, there will be different age groups and different categories eg scariest pumpkin, the most creative pumpkin and the funniest one. Prizes for all the winners.
